How do I change my template on Wix?
Changing your template in Wix requires creating a new site and transferring your content, as Wix doesn't support direct template switching on existing sites.
The Process
Create a New Site Log in to your Wix account and navigate to your Dashboard. Click "Create New Site" and browse through the template gallery to find your desired design. Once you've selected a template, click "Create Site" to begin.
Backup Your Current Site Before making any changes, it's crucial to duplicate your existing site. In your Dashboard, hover over your current site, click the three dots, and select "Duplicate Site" to create a backup.
Transfer Your Content Open both your old and new sites in separate windows. Manually copy your content—including text, images, videos, and other media—from the old site to the new one, page by page. Adjust the content to fit the new template's layout as you go.
Customize Your New Design Use the Wix Editor to personalize your new template. Adjust colors, fonts, backgrounds, and design elements to match your brand identity. Rearrange sections and elements to create a cohesive look that meets your needs.
Transfer Premium Features If your old site has a premium plan or custom domain, you'll need to reassign these to your new site. Go to your Account Settings or Domains section, select your new site, and assign your premium plan and domain.
Publish and Test Once everything is set up, publish your new site. Thoroughly test all pages, links, and features to ensure everything functions correctly before directing traffic to your new site.
Important Considerations
Content transfer is entirely manual—Wix doesn't offer an automatic migration tool between templates. Plan your template change carefully to minimize downtime, and test your new site extensively before making it live. The duplicate site feature serves as a valuable safety net throughout this process.
